The church is on the south-west side of the parish, 1 mile north from East Looe, near the road from that place to Liskeard, 8 miles south from the latter, and 5 west-by-south from Menheniot station on the Great Western railway, in the South Eastern division of the county, hundred and petty sessional division of West, Liskeard union and county court district, rural deanery of West, archdeaconry of Bodmin and diocese of Truro. A small portion of the village of Hessenford is in this parish. The church of St. Martin is a large edifice of stone in the Early English style of the 13th century, and consists of chancel, nave, south aisle, south transept or Looe aisle, north transept or Treveria aisle, north porch and an embattled western tower, with pinnacles, containing 6 bells : there is a fine Norman arch within the north porch, and the font is of the same period: on the south side of the vestry, which has been formed out of the Keveral aisle, is a marble monument to Walter Langdon esq. of Keveral, ob. 1676, surrounded by a finely-carved screen; there are also mural tablets to the family of Nicolas, including Sir Harry Nicolas, the distinguished antiquary, G.C.M.G., K.H. d. 3rd August, 1848, and Admiral John Nicolas K.H., K.C.F. ; Philippe Maiowe, gent. 1590; the Rev. Stephen Medhope, rector, 1636, and many others: in the chancel is a stained window to the Rev. W. Joseph King, rector, d. 1889: in 1882 the tower was re-pointed and faced, a new peal of six bells hung, the church drained all round, and the foundations strengthened; the interior was also partly restored and an organ erected at a total cost of £2,182, and a new reredos was also presented by the rector and a friend: there are 400 sittings: in 1882, when the church was restored, the churchyard was enlarged by the addition of a quarter of an acre of glebe given by the Rev.
