Biggin History

BIGGIN, NETHER & UPPER, form a township, in the petty sessional division of Wirksworth, 5 miles south-west-by-south from Wirksworth and 8 west from Belper. Here was formerly a church or chapel, but even its site has been long forgotten. John Blackwall Evans-Blackwall esq. J.P. of Blackwall, Wirksworth, is the principal landowner. The area is 643 acres; rateable value, £932; the population in 1891 was 112. By Local Government Board Order, a detached part of Hulland township was transferred.
