Holcombe History
HOLCOMBE is a hamlet in the parish of Dawlish, about 1 ½ miles south-west of that place, and 1 ½ north from Teignmouth. Here are several good villas, pleasantly situated on an eminence facing the sea. The Pennell family are the chief landowners. The small church (mission) here, erected about 1867 by the late Mrs. Graham, was enlarged in 1893 by the extension of the chancel; the floor was relaid, communion rails fixed and an organ loft erected, at a cost of £250, the whole work being undertaken as a memorial to the late Misses Rebecca and Emma Fennell. Mrs. Lloyd, daughter of the foundress, endowed the church with a sum which brings in £54 yearly. The services here are conducted by the clergy of the parish church.
