Raddon History

RADDON is a hamlet half a mile west. The manor of East Raddon belonged prior to Edward I. to the family of de Bathwina or de Bathe, ancestors of Sir Henry de Bathe, and is now the property of Sir John Shelley bart. The remains of the ancient chapel here, dedicated to St. John the Baptist, and granted to Thomas Walys and his wife Isabel, August 24th, 1425, by Bishop Lacy, formed, until lately, part of a cottage, but in 1896 the chapel was restored by Sir John Shelley bart. of Shobrooke Park, and re-dedicated; the fine old oak roof is still entire, and portions of the old windows have been replaced.
