Sleetburn History

Sleetburn is a colliery village, about a miles south, and half a mile from Ushaw Moor station on the Deerness branch of the North Eastern railway. Its inhabitants are chiefly employed at the New Brancepeth Colliery. Here is a Colliery school, in which divine service is held twice on Sunday. A new church is (1889) about to be erected. Here is a Primitive Methodist chapel, erected in 1884, of white brick, with 150 sittings, and a Wesleyan chapel, built in 1877, seating 200 parsons.
