The church of St. Lawrence is a building of stone in the Norman and later styles, consisting of large chancel, nave of three bays, aisles, south porch and an embattled western tower, with octagonal spire 90 feet high, and containing a clock and 8 bells, the last two, completing the octave, being given by Jonathan Slater esq. in 1892: the reredos was presented by Stephen Jarrett esq. in 1882: the east window is stained, and on the south side of the chancel is a memorial window, erected in 1882 by the late Mrs. Maxwell Hamilton, to her sister, Elizabeth Ann, eldest daughter and co-heir of the late John Graves esq. and wife of the late Sir John Maxwell Steele-Graves bart.; she died in 1877: in the chancel is a stained window erected by Sidney Graves Hamilton esq MA. in memory of his mother, Mrs. Maxwell Hamilton, and another of ancient stained glass, displaying the arms of the Fisher family, former lords of the manor, and a memorial window to Capt. Freeman, of Hidcote: there are several monuments to the Fisher and Graves families: the church was thoroughly restored in 1870, at a cost of £2,000, under the direction of Mr. Preedy, architect, and agam since 1873 at a cost of £500, and affords 300 sittings. In the churchyard is a very interesting crucifix of the 12th century, placed there by the late vicar. The register dates from the year 1539, but its earlier portion is stated to belong properly to the parish of Aston-sub-Edge, the words “Aston Register " appearing on the outer cover, but has been partly concealed by the indorsement, “Mickleton Register,” written above it; the transfer is believed to have taken place when for a long period the two parishes were served by one clergyman. The living is a vicarage, gross yearly value £130, including 28 ½ acres of glebe, with residence, in the gift of the Lord Chancellor, and held since 1896 by the Rev. Augustus Mead Coxwell-Rogers MA. of St. John’s College, Oxford. The Rev. Richard Graves MA. author of “The Spiritual Quixote,” and a number of other works, chiefly poetical, was born here, 4 May, 1715, being the second son of Richard Graves esq. a distinguished antiquary and genealogist; he was educated at Abingdon School, 1730—2, and Pembroke College, Oxford, and was rector of Claverton, Somerset, from 1748, where he died, 23 Nov. 1804. There is a Wesleyan chapel. Richard Porter, in 1513, left land, now worth about £80 a year, for the repairs of the church, the surplus to be appropriated to the parish school. At the inclosing of the fields in 1612, 33 acres of land, now producing about £50 yearly, were laid out and presented by the landowners for the benefit of the poor. In 1827 Miss Nanny Millard left the interest of £300 to be distributed among the poor of the parish annually; there are a few other small charities. In the village is a handsome drinking fountain erected in 1875 by Lady Steele-Graves, in memory of her husband, Sir Maxwell Steele-Graves bart. and of his daughter, Mrs. Bowen-Graves. Mickleton Manor is the property of Sidney Graves Hamilton esq. J.P., MA. fellow of Hertford College, Oxford. Kiftsgate Court is now the residence of Joseph Robert Heaven esq. and is situate on Glyde hill, about half a mile from the village; it was erected in 1887—9, and includes the more recent portion of the old manor house, dating from 1742, which has been removed from its former site: the manor house is now occupied by Mrs. C. A. R. Hoare. Sidney Graves Hamilton esq. who is lord of the manor, the Earl of Harrowby and F. Charsley esq. of Bucks, are the principal landowners. The soil is sandy and rich loam, with a good portion of excellent pasture land; subsoil, a stiff blue clay. The area of the township is 2,528 acres; rateable value, £5,972; the population of the parish in 1891 was 600 civil, and 720 ecclesiastical.

A School Board of 7 members was formed Dec. 13, 1871, for the united district of Clopton, Hidcote Bartram & Mickleton.
