MORBORNE is a village and parish, on the borders of Northamptonshire and near the Great North road, 5 miles south-east from Elton station on the Northampton and Peterborough branch of the London and North Western railway and about 7 south-west from Peterborough, in the Northern division of the county, hundred and petty sessional division of Norman Cross, union and county court district of Peterborough, rural deanery of Yaxley, archdeaconry of Huntingdon, and diocese of Ely. The church of All Saints is an ancient building of stone in the Norman and Early English styles, consisting of chancel, nave, south transept, aisles, north porch and a western embattled tower of red brick with pinnacles and containing 2 bells: in the chancel is a double piscina and sedilia: the church was repaired in 1864 at the expense of the rector and others: there are 125 sittings. The register dates from the year 1724. The living is a rectory, net yearly value £99, including 78 acres of glebe, with residence, in the gift of the Rev. Charles Frederick Vincent LL.D, of Torquay, Devon, and held since 1890 by the Rev. Robert Warrener M.A. of St. Catherine’s College, Cambridge. George Charles Wentworth-Fitzwilliam esq. J.P. of Milton House, Peterborough, is lord of the manor and sole landowner. The soil is of a clayey nature; subsoil, clay. The chief-crops are wheat, barley, beans and peas. The area is 1,204 acres; rateable value, £756; the population in 1891 was 90.
