The church of SS. Peter and Paul is of flint, stone and brick, in the Norman, Early English and later styles, and has a Norman tower containing a clock and 8 bells, re-hung in 1885: there are several stained windows, stone screens and a monument to Robert Plot LL.D, the historian of Oxfordshire and Staffordshire, ob. 30 April, 1696: the church affords 350 sittings, 270 being free. The register dates from the year 1555. The living is a vicarage, net yearly value £200, with 2 ½ acres of glebe and residence, in the gift of H. H. W. Sparham esq. and held since 1896 by the Rev. The principal landowners are Sir E. Leigh-Pemberton K.C.B. 5 Warwick sq. London, Sir Robert Marcus Filmer bart. of 22 Lowndes street, London S W, the trustees of George Smeed, and the trustees of Barrow’s Charity. The soil is peat and mould; subsoil, chalk and gravel.
