Moorside History
MOORSIDE is an ecclesiastical palish, formed Nov. 29, 1870, from Prestwich civil parish. The church of St. Thomas, erected in 1872 by the late Thomas Mellodew, at a cost of £9,000, is a stone building in the Gothic style, and consists of chancel, nave, aisles, north and south porches, baptistery, and a western tower with octagonal spire containing a clock and 8 bells with chimes: the east and west windows are stained, and there are five others: the church affords 485 sittings, 241 being free. The register dates from the year 1860. The living is a vicarage, net yearly value £270, with residence, in the joint gift of Miss Mellodew and Charles Lees esq. and held since 1890 by the Rev. Evan Mayhew Jones B.A. of Jesus College, Oxford.
