The village consists principally of one long street. By the “Leicester Extension Act, 1891,” a part of Knighton parish was added to Oadby. The church of St. Peter is a building of stone of the Decorated period, consisting of chancel, nave, aisles, north and south porches and a western tower with hexagonal spire containing a clock and 4 bells, dated 1600, 1616 and 1714; the south porch was added in 1875: in 1887—8 the church was extensively repaired, the chancel new-roofed, repaved and a reredos added and a south aisle and vestry erected at a cost of £2,250: there are memorial windows to Mrs. T. In 1892 Thomas Merritt Evans left £500, the interest of which is to be divided amongst the deserving poor of 65 years and upwards, at the uncontrolled discretion of the vicar and churchwardens. The racecourse here, formed in 1883, comprises 196 acres, overlooking the valley of the Soar, and is distinguished by having a straight mile.
