Historical Description
WADDINGWORTH is a parish, 5 miles north from Southrey station on the Lincoln and Boston branch of the Great Northern railway and 6 north-west from. Horncastle, in the East Lindsey division of the county, parts of Lindsey, southern division of Gartree wapentake, union, petty sessional division and county court district of Horncastle, and archdeaconry and diocese of Lincoln. The church of St. Margaret is a very small edifice of stone, in the Gothic style, consisting of chancel and nave, and a belfry containing one bell: there are 62 sittings. The register dates from the year 1640, and the registers of Baumber contain entries relating to this and other parishes from 1695 to 1779. The living is a rectory, annexed to Gautby, average tithe rent-charge £97, joint net yearly value £270, including 25 acres of glebe, with residence, in the gift of the Lord Chancellor, and held since 1891 by the Rev. Charles James Wynne MA. of Jesus College, Oxford, who resides at Gautby. The poor have the interest of £300, left by Mrs. Baker in 1848, and distributed in coals at Christmas. The principal landowners are Miss Trafford, who is lady of the manor, William Henry Trafford esq. J.P. of Wroxham Hall, Norfolk, and Robert Charles de Grey Vyner esq. of Fairfield Skelton, N. Yorks. The soil is strong loam and clay; subsoil, day. The chief crops are wheat, barley, oats and beans. The area is 925 acres; rateable value, £502; the population in 1891 was 54.
