There are two fairs, known by the name of Beggar’s Bush fairs, held in the parish on St. Giles’s and Ascension Day, by virtue of the patent of King James I. granted in' 1615. There is also a customary fair in the town of Edmonton, called a statute fair, which is now merely a holiday fair.
Edmonton Church is a large structure, consisting of a nave, chancel, and north aisle; at the west end is a square tower embattled. The windows of the chancel are gothic.
the north-east corner of the chancel, is an ancient altar tomb of purbeck marble, richly ornamented with quatrefoils, &c. The arms and brass figures have been torn off.
In the south-east corner of the nave, is a monument with a depressed gothic arch, richly ornamented with foliage, to the memory of John Kirton, Esq. the fourth in descent from Alin Kirton, who died in 1362.
The following singular epitaph was formerly to be seen in the church-yard on a head-stone, now removed.
"Hie jacet Newberry Will
Vitam finibet cum Cochiae Pill
Quis administravit? Bellamy Sue
Quantumquantitat? nescio—scisne tu?
Ne sutor ultra crepidam."

The parish adopted the “Public Health Act of 1848” 21 June, 1859, but by the operation of the “Edmonton Local Board (Division of District) Act, 1881,” it was divided into two Urban Sanitary Districts, Edmonton and Southgate. Under the provisions of the “Local Government Act, 1894” (56 and 57 Vict. c. 73) an Urban District Council of nine members has been formed for the Edmonton Local Board area.
In pursuance of the “Local Government Act of 1894,” the old civil parish of Edmonton has been formed into two, consisting of the Edmonton and Southgate Urban areas.
