The village is supplied with water by the Rickmansworth and Uxbridge Valley Water Works Company. from their works at Rickmansworth, and lighted with gas by the Brentford Gas Company. The church of SS. Peter and Paul is an ancient structure, chiefly of flint, with stone dressings, in the Norman, Early Decorated and other styles, consisting of chancel, nave, north aisle, south porch and an embattled western tower, with angle turret and vane, containing a striking clock and 6 bells: the south doorway is an elaborate specimen of Early Norman work and has an oaken porch, finely carved, of the 14th century: the font is also Norman, and in the nave are two windows of very Early Norman or perhaps Saxon date: the Decorated windows of the chancel exhibit some fine tracery: the east window is very late Perpendicular; in the church is a brass to Gregory Lovell esq. lord of the manor and patron of the church, ob. 1545, Anne (Bellingham), his wife, and two children, and one, with half-length effigy, to John Monmouth, rector, c. 1430; and in the chancel a mural monument to Joseph Trapp D.D. of Wadham College, Oxford, rector here 1732—47, and professor of poetry at Oxford from 1708, d. 22 Nov. 1747: this church has been the burial place of the Bennets, Earls of Tankerville, and there are memorials to Charles, third earl, d. 27 Oct. 1767, and Charles Augustus, fifth earl, d. 25 June, 1859: in the chancel are some fine modern tombs to the family of de Salis, of Dawley Court, including Count Jerome Fane de Salis J.P. d. 20 Oct. 1830, and Henrietta (Foster), his wife, d. 27 Oct. 1856, and Lieut.-Gen. The register dates from May, 1540. The living is a rectory, yearly value £550, with 8 acres of glebe and residence, built by the present rector at a cost of nearly £3,000, in the gift of Molyneux Barton esq. of Bray, and held since 1873 by the Rev.
