The church of St. Mary is a structure of flint, rubble and brick, of the 13th century, in the Decorated and Perpendicular styles, the chancel being of a somewhat later date: it consists of chancel, nave, south porch and small western turret of wood with short octagonal spire, containing 4 bells: in the chancel are brasses to Henry Rowdell, ob. 1452; John Gyfforde and Susan his wife, ob. 1560; Isaiah Bures M.A. vicar, ob. 1610, and Katherine his wife; here also is a floor stone inscribed to Samuel Lisle, formerly vicar and bishop of St. Asaph, 1744—9; and another to Thomas Arundell, ob. 1699; in the chancel are also memorials to Lancelot Shadwell esq. d. 1861, son of Vice-Chancellor Sir Lancelot Shadwell kt. Admiral Sir C. Shadwell, William. Brabourne D.D. and Samuel Nicolls, former vicars: the font is Perpendicular, but the cover is dated 1624: the east window and several others are stained, and include one erected in 1871 by the late George Harris esq. The living was declared a rectory 5 July, 1895, yearly value £500, with 40 acres of glebe and residence, in the gift since 1864 of Brasenose College, Oxford, and held since 1880 by the Rev.
