Branches of the London and North Western and the Great Western railway pass through the parish and have each a station here, the London and North Western station called “Madeley Market,” and the Great Western “Madeley Court.” The town is lighted with gas by a company, formed in 1851, the works, erected in 1852, being at Hill's lane. The water supply is derived from wells in the neighbourhood. The church of St. Michael, rebuilt in the year 1796, on the site of the earlier church, is an edifice of stone in the Classic style, consisting of nave, aisles, north porch and a finely proportioned western tower, with plain parapet, containing a clock and 6 bells: there are sittings for upwards of 1,000 persons, of which 600 are free: in the churchyard, beneath a cast-iron slab, was buried the Rev.
