The church of SS. Peter and Paul, formerly belonging to Kenilworth Priory, is a fine old building of stone, partly in the Perpendicular style, consisting of chancel, nave of three bays, aisles, south porch and an embattled western tower with pinnacles, containing 8 bells, 4 of which were returned and 4 others added at the expense of the Rev. John Finden Smith Phabayn M.A. vicar 1844—89: a portion of the church plate dates from the year 1441: the stained east window was inserted in 1871 by George W. Digby esq. and there are memorial windows in the chancel to George Robbins, d. 1880; to the Rev. J. F. S. Phabayn, late vicar, d. 1889, and two others to members of his family: in the aisles are three, one to George and Jane Parsons, d. 1882, and two others to members of the Vigour and Hussey families. The church was partially renovated in 1846 and completely restored in 1863 at a cost of £1,000: there are sittings for 350 persons: the lych gate was erected in 1888 by the late vicar. The register dates from 1734, but a great portion of it has been lost. The living is a vicarage, net yearly value £265, including 40 acres of glebe, with residence, in the gift of J. Kenelm D. Wingfield-Digby esq. M.P. and held since 1899 by the Rev. Frederick Wyldbore Wingfield-Digby M.A. of Christ Church, Oxford. Here is a Wesleyan chapel. The charities of £20 yearly value include Wright’s, which is distributed as follows: £2 to the vicar for preaching a sermon, £1 to the parish clerk and £5 to the second poor; Peddle’s of £3 and Phabayn’s of £9 annually for distribution amongst the poor. In this parish are three round barrows, which in July, 1877, were examined by the late Professor Rolleston, of Oxford, and the late Lieut.-Gen. Fox-Pitt-Rivers F.R.S., F.S.A, when a quantity of pottery, a bark coffin containing a bronze dagger and human bones, together with other human remains, burnt and unburnt, with flints, were found. An ancient British road runs near, to the north and west. John Kenelm Digby Wingfield-Digby esq. M.P. of Sherborne Castle, is lord of the manor and chief landowner. The soil is stone brash; the subsoil is stone. The chief crops are corn and some land in pasture. The area is 2,334 acres; assessable value, £1,988; the population in 1891 was 456.

National School (mixed), enlarged in 1893, at a cost of £400, for 120 children; average attendance, 82.
