The church of SS. Peter and Paul is a fine building of stone, chiefly erected in the 15th century but incorporating work of the Norman period, and consists of chancel, nave of five bays, north aisle and a lofty embattled western tower in the Perpendicular style, with pinnacles, and containing a clock and 6 fine-toned bells: in 1879 the chancel was restored and an organ-chamber built on the south side by the late Lord Hylton, and in 1881 a wrought iron screen was erected; the east window was filled with stained glass in 1879 as a memorial to the first Lord Hylton, who died June 1, 1876: and there are other memorial windows to Mrs. Box, Miss Sybil Veitch, daughter of the Rev. H. G. J. Veitch B.A. vicar here 1864--97, and to E. Carleton Tufnell and Honoria Mary his wife, besides a number of stained windows. The interior was restored and reseated and the organ rebuilt in 1898: there are sittings for about 300 persons. In 1900 a triangular lych-gate was erected by Lord Hylton as a memorial to his father, Hedworth Hylton Jolliffe, 2nd baron Hylton, who died 31 Oct. 1899. The register dates from the year 1653. The living is a vicarage, net yearly value from tithe rent-charge £214, with residence, in the gift of Lord Hylton, and held since 1897 by the Rev. Frederick Tufnell M.A. of Magdalen College, Oxford.
