The church of All Saints is an ancient and beautiful edifice of stone, in the Perpendicular style, consisting of chancel, nave, north aisle, south chapel, south porch, and an embattled western tower, with pinnacles, containing a clock and 8 bells: in the chancel is an elaborate monument, with recumbent male and female effigies, belonging to the ancient family of Gorges, ancestors of Sir J. H. G. Smyth bart. J.P. lord of this manor: the church was repaired in 1851, and in 1893 was thoroughly restored from plans by Sir Arthur W. Blomfield kt. The living is a rectory, formerly including Nailsea and Flax Bourton, but both were separated from it under the provisions of an Act of Parliament, 51 George III. (1811). The living was considerably augmented in 1893, by the late Richard Vaughan esq. who placed in trust the sum of £40,000, the income from which is to be paid to the rector for the time being; he also left a further sum of £24,000 for the purpose of establishing a curates’ fund, for Wraxall and Failand, and the net yearly value is now about £1,450, including 76 acres of glebe, with residence, in the gift of and held since 1891 by the Rev.
