The church of St. Peter is a small edifice of flint with stone dressings, in the Norman, Early English and Perpendicular styles, consisting of chancel, nave, north aisle, south porch, and a round tower at the west end containing 3 bells: the porch was erected in 1857 as a memorial to Mrs. Nisbett, a benefactress to the parish in 1846: the church was also re-seated with open seats of carved oak at a cost of £498, and handsome pulpit and reading desk provided: the font, which dates from 1387, has figures of the evangelists finely carved: the church plate was renewed in 1852; there are 150 sittings. The register dates from the year 1697. The living is a rectory, net yearly value £200, including 44 acres of glebe, with residence, in the gift of the Lord Chancellor, and held since 1888 by the Rev. George Venables S.C.L. of St. Edmund Hall, Oxford, hon. canon of Norwich, and F.R.A.S. Providence New Connexion Methodist chapel was built in 1864, and will seat 50. About 637 a monastery was founded on the same site by Fursaeus, an Irish monk, and Sigebert, King of the East Angles. The principal landowners are Sir Francis George Manningham Boileau bart. of Tacolneston Hall, Norfolk, Messrs. H. G. Panks, Benjamin Springhall, and Robert Kittle, and the trustees of Mr. Holt.
