The church of St. Nicholas is a building of flint in the Early English and Decorated styles, consisting of chancel, nave, large south aisle, south porch and an embattled western tower containing 5 bells: there is a memorial window to the Ward family, and on the south wall is a monument of alabaster and marble to members of the Bokenham family, of Thelnetham, dated 1648: the chancel retains a fine carved piscina, and there is an ancient octagonal font: the nave and south aisle are thatched with reeds roved together ornamentally: in 1872 the church was restored and reseated with oak benches and a carved oak pulpit, erected by the Rev. E. H. Sawbridge, a former rector, and in 1895 the chancel was thoroughly restored and new roofed with Spanish chestnut, under the direction of Mr. W. Fawcett, architect, of Cambridge, at the expense of the present rector, in memory of his father, above mentioned: the stone arch of the north doorway was also reset as at first, and two ancient altar slabs, found in the church and churchyard, replaced by faculty in their original positions in the chancel and lady chapel respectively, each being supported on a framework of carved oak: there are 270 sittings. The register dates from the year 1538. The living is a discharged rectory, net yearly value £285, with 23 acres of glebe and residence, in the gift of and held since 1871 by the Rev.
