Historical Description

Whitley - This place is privileged, as ancient demesne, from serving on juries. In Whitley park there was some years ago as much iron ore as set two forges at work. At Bonfield, in this parish, there was a spring of water good for sore eyes and ulcers; and in digging two spits deep near it, were found old English coins of gold and silver, together with rings, which raised the value of the land two shillings an acre more than elsewhere.

Thursley has a chapel of ease to Whitley, from which it is distant about three miles.
