This place was originally a member of the city of Coventry, Bishop Clinton having permitted a chapel to be built here for the use of the poor, reserving the right of burial to the mother-church. In a place called the Parks stood a castle, doubly moated, probably the residence of the Hastings, who possessed this place in the reign of Edward I. The present handsome seat to the south of the village is the residence of James Beak, Esq.
