This vital collection details almost 1.2 million properties eligible for land tax. Records include the name of the landowner, occupier, amount assessed and sometimes the name and/or description of the property. It is a useful starting point for locating relevant estate records and establishing the succession of tenancies and freehold. Most records cover 1798, but some extend up to 1811.

EVENLODE is a parish and a small village, on the small river Evenlode, from which it derives its name, and bounded on the east by the county of Warwick, 3 miles south-east from Moreton-in-Marsh and 2 north from Addlestrop stations on the Oxford and Worcester section of the Great Western railway, which passes through the parish, 3 north-east from Stow-on-the-Wold, and 29 east from Gloucester, in the Southern division of Worcestershire, Oswaldslow hundred, Stow-on-the-Wold union and petty sessional division and county court district, rural deanery of Blockley, and archdeaconry and diocese of Worcester. This parish is locally in Worcestershire, although surrounded by Gloucestershire. The church of St. Edward is an ancient building of stone in the Early English style, consisting of chancel, nave of two bays, south chapel, south porch and an embattled western tower containing 5 bells: the chancel arch is Late Norman: the staircase to the rood loft, still remains and the south chapel retains a piscina and sedilia: the chancel was restored in the year 1878 at a cost of about £500, under the direction of Mr. J. E. K. Cutts, architect, of London: the nave was restored during the period 1885—9 a cost of about £900: there are sittings for 150 persons. The register of marriages and burials dates from 1561; that of baptisms from 1604. The living is a rectory, net yearly value £312, in cluding 276 acres of glebe, with residence, in the gift of and held since 1895 by the Rev. Henry James Kelsall M.A. of Worcester College, Oxford. Here is a Congregational chapel. There are a few small charities, amounting altogether to £15, which sum is expended in providing fuel for the poor. Miss Jane Whitmore Jones owns the manor. George John Sandys esq. of The Slade, near Stroud, and the rector are the chief landowners. The soil is oolite, marlstone and lias clay; subsoil, gravel and clay. The chief crops are wheat, beans, oats and barley. The area is 1,609 acres; rateable value, £3,517; the population in 1891 was 248.
