Fockerby History

Fockerby is a township in the parish of Adlingfleet, one mile distant therefrom and about 11 miles from Goole, situated on the west bank of the old Don river, which is now filled in and under cultivation. The Master and fellows of st. Catharine’s College, Cambridge, are lords of the manor and principal landowners. The soil is a rich warp; the subsoil peat. The chief crops are flax, potatoes, wheat and, beans. The area is 910 acres; rateable value £1,451; the population in 1871 was 88.

Here is a Free school, founded & endowed by M. R. Skerne, & a sum of £200 left by Mrs. Ramsden for apprenticing boys & educating girls, Matt. Lishman, master Haldenby is a township about 9 miles south-east from Goole and 2 ½ south-south-west from Adlingfleet, consisting of a few scattered farms. Thomas and William Ross esqrs. are lords of the manor and principal landowners. The soil is a rich warp. The chief crops are potatoes and wheat. The area is 1,419 acres; rateable value £2,349; the population in 1871 was 86. There was a chantry here at the Dissolution.
