Tholthorpe History
THOLTHORPE is a township and village, on the banks of the small rivulet of Linton, and on the borders of the great forest of Galtres, in the bailiwick of Kyle and parish of Alne, from which it is 2 miles north-west and 5 south-west from Easingwold. There is a Wesleyan chapel, built in 1844, and restored in 1894. Some of the houses are ancient, and about 1 mile north of the village is an eminence called “Ten Mile Hill”; a great part of the land is freehold and belongs to the inhabitants: the common was inclosed in the year 1800. The area is 1,775 acres; rateable value, £1,974; the population in 1911 was 214.
Public Elementary school, erected in 1838 and enlarged in 1908, for 61 children; average attendance, 38.
