Broughton History
BROUGHTON is a township in the parish of Apple-ton-le-street, 1 ½ miles north-west from Malton. This was a Roman Settlement. The chief landowners are the trustees of the late John Potter and the trustees of the late Mrs. Wright. The soil and subsoil are clay and limestone. The chief crops are wheat and barley. The area is 866 acres; rateable value, £1,501; the population in 1911 was 113.
