Abram History
ABRAM, Ergham or Earholme, is a small hamlet, 2 miles south-west from Atwick, which formerly belonged to the Abbey of Meaux and at the Dissolution came to the Crown; it was granted by Queen Elizabeth to Sir Christopher Hatton, Lord Chancellor, and having passed through several hands it came to Sir Christopher Hildyard bart. by marriage with the heiress of Alderman Dobson, of Hull, and continued in this family until 1803, when it was purchased by the late Thomas Bainton esq. The manor house, now called Arram Hall, and the residence of Thomas Reed esq. appears to have been built during the reign of James I. by Nicholas Waller, of Syke-house, West Riding.
