Kiplin History
KIPLIN is a township, in Northallerton union and county court district, 2 miles south-east from Bolton. Mrs. Carpenter Turnor is lady of the manor and sole landowner. Kiplin Hall, the residence of Colonel John Victor Walton Rutherford T.D., M.B., J.P. is a brick mansion with stone dressings in the Jacobean style, erected in 1622 from designs by the celebrated Inigo Jones: it is situated in a beautiful park of 120 acres, and has been enlarged: near the front of the hall is a fishpond of 9 acres, well stocked with fish: the gardens are very extensive and tastefully laid out. The soil is loamy. The chief craps are wheat, oats, barley and turnips. The township contains 992 acres of superior land and 33 of water; rateable value, £1,142; the population in 1911 was 89.
