Appleton History

APPLETON (EAST AND WEST) form a joint township, 2 and 3 miles south from Catterick. The Duke of Leeds, who is lord of the manor, and Marcia Countess of Yarborough are the principal landowners. The area is 1,632 acres of superior land; rateable value, £2,107; the population in 1911 was 129.
