Brompton-upon-Swale History
BROMPTON-UPON-SWALE is a village and township, 2 miles east from Easby, and three-quarters of a mile from Catterick Bridge station on the Richomod branch of the North Eastern railway. St. Paul’s chapel of ease is a plain building of stone; a new organ, choir benches and screen were added in 1892. There are 100 sittings. There is also a Wesleyan chapel. A cemetery of 1 acre was formed in 1900, at a cost of £150, and is under the control of the Parish Council. The area is 1,678 acres of land and 22 of water; rateable value, £2,645; the population in 1911 was 351.
