Clifton with Norwood is a township and scattered village in the parish of and adjoining Fewston. The river Washburn flows through. The Duke of Devonshire is lord of the manor. The principal landowners are George and Charles Shann esqrs. Mr. John Bramley and Mr. John Moorhouse. The land is chiefly pasturage. The soil, clay; subsoil, various. The population (1871) 496, and the area is 3,627 acres; rateable value, £5,681.
