Auburn History
AUBURN, 1 ¾ miles north-east, although once a village, consists now of only one farm, the other portion with the church having been washed away by the encroachments of the sea. The site of the church is now some distance out at sea: the font, now in Wragby church, in the West Riding, was removed before the cliff, on which the church stood, was washed down by the sea, and was afterwards given to the late C. Winn esq. by Sir W. Strickland, 6th bart. (d. 1834), of Boynton, on whose estate the church at Auburn was situated. The area, rateable value and population are now included with (Fraisthorpe, Auburn and Wilsthorpe.
