Grimstone History
GRIMSTONE is a small township of Gilling parish, 1 mile south from Gilling station. There is a charity of 11s. annually. Grimstone Manor, the property and residence of Edward Fisher esq. J.P. is a modern mansion in the Tudor style, standing in tastefully laid out grounds, with terraces and walks leading down to a large trout pond situated at the end of a wood of 60 acres, with a grass paddock adjoining the road near which the house stands. In the township are several tumuli. Edward Fisher esq. J.P. is the principal landowner. The chief crops are turnips, potatoes, seeds, oats and barley. The area of the township is 997 acres, of which about 100 is moor and woodland; rateable value, £674; the population in 1911 was 92.
