Paythorne History
Paythorne is a township, 2 miles north-west from the parish church; the river Ribble is here crossed by a bridge of two arches. Here is a Wesleyan chapel. Lord Ribblesdale is lord of the manor and principal landowner. The area is 2,634 acres; rateable value, £2,218; and the population in 1871 was 122.
