Mount Pellon History

Mount Pellon is an ecclesiastical parish formed in 1854 from the parish of Halifax, and is within the boundary of the extended borough of Halifax; Christ Church, built in 1854, is in the Decorated style, with chancel, nave, aisle, tower, clock, and 3 bells; a memorial window has been inserted by the widow of the Rev. George Kinnear M.A. The register dates from the year 1854. The living is a vicarage, yearly value £150, in the gift of the vicar of Halifax and held by the Rev. Benjamin Town, of St. Bees. The area is 900 acres; the population in 1871 was 2,379.
