Catterton History
Catterton is a township and small village in this parish, formerly in the parish of Tadcaster, on the north side of the river Wharfe, miles north-north-east from Tadcaster, in the ainsty of York and for parliamentary purposes within the North Riding. The Rev. E. H. Brooksbank is lord of the manor and sole landowner. The soil is A mixture of clay and gravel; about half of the land is grazed; the crops are barley, wheat, oats and turnips. The great tithes are merged. The area is 742 acres; rateable value, £697; population in 1871, 48.
