Ellingstring History
ELLINGSTRING is a village and township 4 miles north-west from Masham, and is governed by that Urban District Council. Church services are held in the school room, and there is also a Wesleyan chapel. Lord Masham, who is lord of the manor, and Lady Cowell, of Clifton Castle, Bedale, and Hector Christie esq. J.P. of Jervaulx Abbey, are chief landowners. The soil is loamy upon sandstone. The chief crops are oats and barley. The area is 607 acres; rateable value, £631; the population in 1911 was 115.
