Fearby History

FEARBY is a township and village 2 miles west from Masham, and is governed by the Masham Urban District Council. There is a Wesleyan chapel. Lord Masham is lord of the manor. The soil is loamy, with clay upon sandstone. The chief crops are oats, barley and turnips and some land in pasture. The area is 892 acres; rateable value, £1,343; the population in 1911 was 196.
