Brackenholme-with-woodhall History
BRACKENHOLME-WITH-WOODHALL is a township in the parish of Hemingbrough, and 2 ½ miles east from Hemingbrough station and forms a township 4 miles north-west from Howden on the high road to Selby, and on the river Derwent. Of the tithe, £176 is impropriated and £2 10s. belongs to Cotton’s charity. Wood-hall Hall is now (1913) unoccupied. The principal landowner in Brackenholme is William Banks esq. of The Hall, Hemingbrousrh. The soil is chiefly sand, partly clay and warp. The chief crops are oats, wheat, turnips and potatoes. The area is 1,330 acres of land, 2 of water, 8 of tidal water and 3 of foreshore; rateable value, £3,236; the population in 1911 was 86.
