Colburn History
COLBURN is a township and village, 1 mile north-east from Hipswell. Mrs. G. D’Arcy-Hildyard, of Catterick, who is lady of the manor, and Sir Henry Joseph Lawson bart. are the principal landowners. Colburn Hall, rebuilt in 1662. and now used as a farm house, was formerly a residence of the D’Arcy family. The stables attached to the house once formed part of a chapel dedicated to St. Anne. The area is 1,348 acres of land and 12 of water; rateable value, £1,664; the population in 1911 was 95.
