Hackforth History

HACKFORTH is a township in Bedale union, on the eastern verge of Hornby Park, about miles east from the church, in Bedale union. The Duke of Leeds is lord of the manor and sole landowner. The area is 1,337 acres; rateable value, £1,597; the population in 1911 was 141.

Public Elementary school, Hackforth (mixed), re-erected in 1871, at the expense of the Duke of Leeds & enlarged 1904, to hold 100 children; average attendance, 62.
