Wath History

WATH is a township, about 1 mile south-east of Hovingham station and 8 west from Malton. Here are the remains of an old hall, supposed to have been a seat of the Mowbravs, who were anciently lords of this manor. Rosalind Frances, Dowager Countess of Carlisle, who is lady of the manor, and Sir W. H. A. Worsley bart. J.P. are the landowners. The soil is partly limestone and partly redstone, and produces wheat, barley and oats. The area is 372 acres; rateable value, £277; the population in 1911 was 13.
