Cranswick History

CRANSWICK is a village, with a station on the Hull and Scarborough branch railway; the village, built round a spacious green, is 4 miles south from Driffield, and 16 south-west from Bridlington. There is a Baptist chapel erected in 1880, a Wesleyan chapel, built in 1861, and a Primitive Methodist chapel, built in 1864, with 100 sittings. The Foresters’ Hall, built in 1901, will hold about 400. The Oddfellows’ Hall is now used by the Cranswick Social and Rifle Club, and has a rifle range, billiard rooms &c. The Parish Council have leased 160 acres of land here, including the Manor House, Hutton, and two cottages for allotments and small holdings.
