Bagby History

BAGBY is a township and village in the parish of Kirby-Knowle, 1 ½ miles north-north-east of Great Thirkleby and 3 south-east from Thirsk. St. Mary’s chapel of ease was rebuilt in 1862 by the late Lady Frankland-Russell. The register dates from the year 1556. There is also a Wesleyan chapel. Lady Payne-Frankland, who is lady of the manor, John T. Hansell esq. R. Bell esq. of The Hall, Thirsk, and others are the landowners. The area is 1,588 acres; rateable value, £2,329: the population in 1911 was 214.
