WHASHTON, or Washton (in Domesday book, Quassington), is a township, half a mile south-east from the church. Major Sheldon William Keith Cradock D.S.O of Hartforth Hall, who is lord of the manor, and the Marquess of Zetland K.T., P.C. are the principal landowners. The area is 1,739 acres; rateable value, £1,256; the population in 1911 was 110.
