Upper Heaton History
Upper Heaton is a hamlet within the township of Kirkheaton, on the river Colne, with a station on the North Western railway. A little further down is the village of Colne Bridge, which is partly within the township of Kirkheaton, and has a bridge over the Colne uniting it with Bradley.
The National school was erected in 1845 on the site of the old Free Grammar school, at a cost of £1,000, raised by subscription & a government grant: Henry Whitley, master; Mrs. Ann Jenkinson, mistress.
