Upper Whitley History

Upper Whitley is a township in the parish of Kirkheaton; in this township are several extensive collieries. Whitley Beaumont is a handsome mansion, pleasantly situated in well-wooded grounds, and is the seat of Henry Frederick Beaumont esq. J.P.; the park and plantations extend over 200 acres. Sir John P. Lister-Kaye bart. and H. F. Beaumont esq. are lords of the manor and principal landowners. The area is 2,0.53 acres; rateable value £4,665; and the population in 1871 was 882.
