Swanland History
SWANLAND is a township in North Ferriby and Kirk Ella parishes, 1 ½ miles north. The tithe, amounting to £142, is impropriated, A Mission room in connection with North Ferriby church was erected here in 1899. Here is a Congregational chapel, founded in 1693, with 350 sittings, and a Primitive Methodist chapel. Swanland Manor, a modern mansion, is the residence of Sir James Reckitt bart. D.L., J.P. The principal landowners are J. W. Todd esq. Sir J. Reckitt bart. Algernon H. Barkworth esq. J.P. of Hessle, and Robert Ringrose esq. The area is 2,871 acres of land, 275 of tidal water and 314 of foreshore; rateable value, £6,477; the population in 1911 was 480.
