Scagglethorpe History

SCAGGLETHORPE is a hamlet and township in the parish of Settrington, 3 miles east-north-east from Malton and one mile north from Settrington. A Church of England service is conducted in the school room on Sunday afternoons during the winter months. There are also Wesleyan and Primitive Methodist chapels. The land is held by numerous small freeholders. The area is 1,203 acres of land and 3 of water; rateable value, £2,644; the population in 1911 was 217.

The children of this place attend the schools at Settrington & Rillington.
