Newthorpe History
Newthorpe is a village and township in the parish of Sherburn, 3 miles south-east from Aberford and equidistant from Micklefield and Milford Junction stations on the North Eastern railway. Lady Ashtown is lady of the manor and sole landowner. The soil is clay and limestone; subsoil the game. The chief crops are wheat, barley and roots. The area is 747 acres; rateable value £2,577; population in 1871, 85.
